President

Kelly Young

Esteemed delegates, student officers, directors, and honored guests, I am incredibly excited to serve as your president for the International Court of Justice! My name is Kelly Young and I am currently a junior at Shanghai American School Pudong. Though this is my first year serving as a student officer, this will my fourth year participating in MUN, and my third in Mock trial.

Whether or not this is your first year, or tenth, participating in this form of debate, I hope that you may approach the issue at hand with the passion and rigor with recognition of the real life consequences that members of the ICJ faces everyday. This year, we will be exploring the case of South Africa v. Israel, a case built on the doctrine of erga omnes partes, which reaffirms that genocide prevention is a shared international obligation, not one contingent on direct harm. I look forward to seeing this principle come alive through your debate.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns via email at

Kelly01pd2028@saschina.org I look forward to seeing you all in November!

Deputy-President

Anna Zhao Karlsson

Hi everyone, my name is Anna, and I'm excited to serve as your Deputy Chair for ICJ.

As an 11th grader at Hangzhou International School, I've been involved in MUN for 5 years. I've participated in 15 conferences both across China and internationally, and I've chaired four times before. I'm eager to bring my experience to this committee to help create a productive and engaging conference.

MUN has benefited me a lot over the past few years. It has helped me develop skills like public speaking, critical thinking, and teamwork. Most importantly, I've met lots of new people and gained many valuable friendships while attending conferences.

I hope everyone enjoys this conference, gains valuable insights, and makes meaningful connections. Let's work together to make WLMUN XX a memorable and impactful experience. Hope to see you all in November!
