President

Katelyn Jiang

Dear esteemed delegates. My name is Katelyn Jiang, I am a senior from Shanghai American School Pudong Campus and it is my pleasure to serve you the president of UNEP for WLMUN XX.

Although I only started MUN in 9th grade, over the past years I have grown to absolutely love it. WLMUN XX will mark my 6th conference and my first time chairing.

For many of you, this may be your first MUN conference. As your chair I want to assure you that you have absolutely nothing to worry about. On the outside MUN may seem like an intimidating, ruthless, and cutthroat activity where rookie diplomats gather. In reality, MUN is more about the community we can create, the solutions we can find, the opportunities we can generate, and the discussions we can form. Always remember to be confident in yourself and your abilities regardless of your experience!

During this conference I will be focusing on the topic of Addressing the environmental impact of fast fashion production in developing countries. As shopping and consuming becomes even more accessible than ever, the issue of fast fashion and its ever present effects on our environment are all too impactful in this present day. For this conference, we will attempt to address this issue from its root to its consequences.

I can’t wait to meet everyone!

Deputy-President

Henry Yizhou Huang

Esteemed delegates, student officers and directors. My name is Henry Yizhou Huang, and I am currently a sophomores at Basis International Nanjing. It is my honor to serve as your Deputy Chair for West Lake MUN XX in UNEP. I have solid speech and debate experience, especially in public forum and British Parliamentary. This is my fifth conference, third time taking the role as a chair. Now, as Deputy of UNEP, I’m specialized on the topic "Managing the environmental trade-offs of Al data center." Franklin D. Roosevelt once states: "The point in history at which we stand is full of promise and danger. The world will either move forward toward unity and widely shared prosperity—or it will move apart." Global cooperation is necessary that no single country can tackle AI enviromental risks alone. As the deputy chair, I wish all delegates come ready to share ideas, debate and work together for practical solutions. Email if you have any questions for me/about the topic: 3115608700@qq.com

Deputy-President

Esteemed delegates, student officers, directors, and guests,

Welcome to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)!

My name is Claire Gu, an 8th grader from Nanjing International School. It is an honor to serve as a Deputy President for the UNEP, officially marking my first experience as a Student Officer.

I will always cherish my experiences in the UNEP, as this committee was where I took part in my first ever Model United Nations conference. Throughout my MUN journey, I have built friendships with delegates from many different schools, and MUN has not only aided me in debate and public speaking skills, but has also helped me better understand global issues from different angles. Throughout this conference, I am determined to remain fair, and commit entirely to the UNEP.

Whether this may be your first or tenth conference, your perspectives matter greatly in this committee room. Please do not hesitate to share your thoughts, or reach out to me at clairegu@nanjing-school.com with any questions.

Looking forward to meeting you all in November!

Claire Gu
