President
Michael Zhang

Esteemed delegates, student officers, directors, and guests, welcome to the Special Political and Decolonisation Committee at West Lake MUN XIX. My name is Michael Zhang, an 11th-grade student at Hiba Academy Shanghai, and it is my privilege to serve as your president for this committee. My MUN journey began five years ago, where I learned the value of adaptability and decisive leadership—qualities I now bring to this role. This committee’s focus on indigenous rights, self-determination, and post-colonial conflict resolution aligns closely with my academic passion for 20th-century history. Having studied how the post-WWI era reshaped borders yet often marginalised indigenous voices, I am eager to guide debates that address these enduring challenges. To that end, I aim to foster discussions that bridge historical context with contemporary complexities, encouraging resolutions that are both innovative and grounded in precedent.

Should you have any questions, feel free to reach out at michael.zhang.2027@hibaacademy.org. Let’s make this conference memorable, insightful, and transformative.

Tanmay Garg

Esteemed delegates and participants,

I am Tanmay Garg, a Junior at Hangzhou International School. I am honored to serve as Chair of SPECPOL at this year’s WLMUN. Although my journey in MUN is relatively new, I have developed a passion for international relations and diplomacy. I also really enjoy public speaking and love the feeling of being able to tackle global issues. As a chair, I will try my best to make this conference an enriching one for all the delegates. Through thoughtful discussion, I hope that all of us can learn and grow as global citizens. Once again, I’m really excited to welcome you all, and hope we can all have an unforgettable WLMUN.

Sincerely,

Tanmay Garg.
