Greetings Delegates! I am Samuel Huang, a Freshman at Hangzhou International School, and it is my pleasure to serve as your President for the UN Historical Committee for WLMUN XX.
I have been a member of my school's MUN Club since Grade 6, and WLMUN was my first ever conference, and the conferences here have been some of my most memorable. MUN has been an essential part of my life since Grade 6, and it has allowed me to learn about various global issues and expand my international outlook. However, I think the most valuable thing that I have gained is all the friends from across the world that I have made during my time as part of the larger MUN society.
I will be along with my fellow chairs be responsible for the topic of "Addressing the fragmentation of the Han Dynasty, the loss of power from the Han Emperor, and the emergence of regional warlords". Our committee is a new concept in WLMUN, being that it is set in the ancient past instead of the modern day. Our topic will be tackling Ancient Chinese history during the 3rd Century AD, which I understand may be an unfamiliar topic for many of you. Welcome delegates! My name is Henry Tang, currently a freshman at Hangzhou International School. It is my honor to serve as your deputy president for UN Historical committee at West Lake MUN XX.
I started my MUN journey in grade six, at HIS, and every conference since then has provided me with unique experiences. Whether it's about broadening my world view, learning different ways to approach issues, or improving my public speaking skills, I have never returned empty-handed. Most importantly, MUN brings diverse people together to collaborate. Before you know it, you have expanded more than just your knowledge of global issues, but also connections to others. WLMUN, as the beginning of my MUN journey, will always hold a special place in my heart.
In UN Historical, we will be diving into ancient China, and "addressing the fragmentation of the Han Dynasty, the loss of power from the Han Emperor, and the emergence of regional warlords". This may be a difficult topic to research, but don't let the historical constraints restrict your imagination. Feel free to contact me anytime if you have any questions.
Delegates, with only "seconds to midnight", there is certainly no time to waste, but don't rush, because the miles ahead will be extraordinary! I hope every delegate achieves greatness in their ongoing MUN journey, and just as the Han people say, "幸会" (Xìng Huì)!

Ethan Wang
Esteemed delegates, student officers, directors, and honored guests, I am Ethan Wang, a freshman from Basis International school. It is my great pleasure to serve as the deputy president for the Historical committee of WLMUN XX, and this will also mark my first chairing experience. WLMUN has been my first MUN conference to attend since I joined an international school. MUN is something I have been passionate about since I first learned about it, and it is a great opportunity for us to engage with issues surrounding international relations and diplomacy. It is also a great platform for students across International schools in China to meet with each other and establish meaningful friendships. Although awards are certainly an important part of MUN, but what comes to me more when I first engage in an MUN conference is a sense of belonging in this vibrant community, it is not only a place for us to compete for an award, but moreover a place that provides us a sense of belonging. Henceforth, it is my duty to safeguard a memorable and engaging conference for you to find your sense of belonging. I am looking for a great conference in November that will leave you with a longlasting impression and valuable experience, and furthermore, wish you all to find your own belongingness in this lively community.
