President
Yvonne Jin

Esteemed delegates, directors, and guests,

My name is Yvonne Jin, a current G11 student at HIBA Academy Shanghai, and it is both an honor and a privilege to serve as the President of UNEP for West Lake MUN XIX.

In the past several years, MUN has broadened my understanding of the world. Participating as both a President and a delegate has enhanced a multitude of skills that are invaluable both inside and outside the conference room. I am incredibly determined that the UNEP committee will offer you all opportunities for improvement, and I am confident that it will bring you all a memorable experience. My biggest piece of advice is to speak with clarity (quote from a biology teacher: ‘clarity equals success’), be confident when you take the floor, propose innovative solutions, and make sure you fully understand the topic and your country’s position from different perspectives. Lastly, don’t PANIC!

As the President of the UNEP committee, I am incredibly excited about the upcoming conference. I look forward to facilitating discussions on critical topics and promoting a comprehensive understanding of the complex environmental issues that the UNEP addresses.

See you all in November!

Deputy-President
Hugh Lee

Hello delegates! Welcome to the United Nations Environmental Programme of West Lake MUN XIX. My name is Hugh Lee, and I am currently a senior at EtonHouse International School of Suzhou. It's truly an honour to serve as your Deputy President for this year’s conference. To be honest, my MUN journey only started about a year ago, so if you’re feeling nervous, I get it. At my first conference, there were over 50 delegates crammed into one committee room, and I was absolutely frozen. I didn’t dare to say a word. But with a little push from the chairs and some supportive delegates, I eventually found the courage to speak. And guess what? No one laughed, no one judged! In fact, they clapped, even though clapping is only allowed when your resolution passes. That moment taught me that MUN is less about being perfect and more about willing to try. I’m generally a pretty chill person and always happy to help. My (slightly cliché but still important) advice? Understand your two topics well, do some proper research, and most importantly, know your country’s stance. That will give you the confidence you need to contribute meaningfully to the committee. I can’t wait to meet all of you this November. If you have any questions or just want to say, “Hi Hugh”, feel free to reach out to me at hugh.lee@student.etonhouse.com.cn . See y’all soon!
