Welcome to the eighteenth iteration of the West Lake Model United Nations conference held at Hangzhou International School!

The theme of our conference, "One Step Back, Two Steps Forward," encapsulates the essence of progress in the face of adversity. It acknowledges that setbacks and obstacles are an inevitable part of any journey towards positive change. However, it also emphasizes the resilience, determination, and unwavering spirit required to overcome these setbacks and advance towards a better future. In our world today, we are confronted with numerous complex issues that demand our attention and collective action. Climate change threatens the very existence of our planet, armed conflicts continue to wreak havoc on innocent lives, economic disparities persist, and social injustices persist in many corners of the globe. It is in the face of these challenges that the concept of "one step back, two steps forward" becomes particularly relevant. This phrase reminds us that setbacks and failures should not discourage us, but rather serve as catalysts for renewed efforts and innovative solutions. It acknowledges that progress is often nonlinear, and that success is often preceded by learning from our mistakes. It is through our ability to reflect, adapt, and persevere that we can transform setbacks into stepping stones towards a brighter future.
