Deputy-President
Danielle Pan
Greetings delegates,
My name is Danielle, a sophomore at Nanjing International School, and it is my utmost honor to serve as the Deputy President of the Security Council at West Lake MUN XIX.
Over the past four years, I have been actively involved in Model United Nations, participating in 11 conferences across China. Through these experiences, I have had the privilege of serving in various leadership positions, including Deputy President of the General Assembly II at West Lake MUN 2023, President of the General Assembly II at NISMUN III, and President of the General Assembly I at XIAMUN IX. These opportunities have greatly shaped my passion for diplomacy and international affairs.
This conference marks a particularly exciting milestone as it will be my first time chairing the Security Council, a committee that has long held a special place in my MUN journey. I have previously represented delegations in the Security Council at CISSMUN XII and XIII, and I am thrilled to now contribute from the chairing perspective.
As the only UN body with legally binding resolutions, the Security Council holds a unique role in maintaining international peace and security. With the presence of the P5 and their veto power, it brings both complexity and realism to our debates, requiring delegates to balance legal insight with diplomatic skill and strategic negotiation.
I will be specializing on the topic“Evaluating the role of peacekeeping missions in post-conflict reconstruction and stability” which addresses a core challenge of the Council’s mandate. It will require delegates to think critically about the balance between sovereignty and intervention, the long-term effectiveness of peacekeeping operations, and the Security Council’s role in shaping sustainable recovery in fragile states.
I look forward to a rigorous, insightful, and respectful debate. Please do not hesitate to reach out should you have any questions or require guidance during your preparation. I am confident that, together, we will create a dynamic and intellectually enriching committee experience.
Warmest regards,
Danielle
Deputy President of the Security Council
